A couple of weeks ago I made the trip to the midlands to shoot this, Dave's phenomenal 600hp 1.5JZ JZX110 MKii which I'd argue is one of the best examples out there. Having never met Dave before and having never spoken to him only on social media, I'll be honest I didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival I was greeted by his home and being it was his shed or in other words, his toy box. Inside lives the JZX along with his bikes, which my knowledge on bikes as a whole is very limited. It was a savage evening to be out doing the shoot, the start of the summer really.
As said in a previous post, I love JZX but 110's don't get the same attention that earlier 81's, 90's and 100's get. I'd assume it's because they're the last of the JZX chassis and VRT prices at that much more than the older, 200€ VRT equivalent. I'd never pay much attention to 110 simply because they don't look as good as its predecessors. The MKii is quite a nice thing but the Verossa, I don't know what Toyota was thinking.
Dave's 110 wears a T&E Vertex Aero kit with custom TH components custom "body-kit" panels. The front wings are Vertex 25mm with an extra 25mm modified into them to make it that much wider. Dave also has a genuine BN Sports Type 1 bonnet and genuine JZX110 Ganadors, not fanadors. The JZX also rocks a ITOAutoService Traum boot spoiler and roof spoiler along over ITOAutoService overfenders too. A rather sporty set up that makes the chassis so aggressive. The front grill is the incredibly rare 35th anniversary white/gold variant which is just the icing on this JZX shaped cake.
It moves as aggressively as it looks too. Under the bonnet lives the incredible 1JZ that so many of us love. No standard 1JZ though because no half measures with Dave because he bought a fresh 2JZ block from Toyota. Recipe doesn't end there, fitted it has BC 272 cams, BC springs and retainers, Bosch 1000cc injectors and the huge precision 6466 Gen 2 Turbo mounted on a 6 boost manifold along with the 66mm wastegate. It has a JZX100 throttle conversion and controlling it all is a Link ECU. Greddy front mount intercooler, piping and Greddy radiator keeping the JZ nice and cool. It also has a Greddy strut brace, RAM-Air huge air filter with a stainless 4" intake pipe creating some tasty dosage. The valve cover has a custom chrome heat sink over it. Mapped by AP Performance making a modest 500hp on low boost and 600hp on high boost and I can confirm it makes the best noises with its custom 3" exhaust and 2" screamer pipe. Out the back it had a Ganador muffler (not much muffling happening) and a custom turndown tip.
The bits you can't see are the Endless Zeal Super function dampening adjustable coilovers up front with BC Racing coilovers in the rear. ATS 2-Way diff (4.1 CWP) is fitted, ILEYA FORMULA rear arms. Up front is Hey Man!! extra lock steering knuckles along with Cusco underbody braces front and rear, Cusco thicker anti roll bars, Poly bushed anti rollbar bushes and Hardrace subframe bushes and engine mounts.
Interior wise it remains pretty simple with Bride DIGO bucket seats with Bride rails. 4 genuine Defi gauges + Defi controller, Genuine Nardi, Thrust/Greddy Gearnob, Cusco drift handbrake button and a Greddy rear strut brace in the boot.
It's a very special car having only seen the road a couple of times in the last couple of years but I'm hoping that will change soon. Have to say a massive thank you to Dave for allowing to come down and shoot your pride and joy. You might see in some of the photos the blue EVO 9, owned by Lee. Full feature coming soon on that.
